Free Woodworking Plans
The web may be the antithesis of the Craftsman ideal - chaotic, full of junk, hard to navigate, inconsistent, and hardly workmanlike - it does contain endless excellent references for woodworkers engaging in their own attempts at craftsmanship. Using the collaborative social bookmarking experiment Delicious, I've found plenty of plans and other useful resources - some for beginners and other for more advanced woodworkers - that will be helpful to people contemplating Arts & Crafts-style furniturebuilding. While there are plenty of plans for sale out there, I'm focusing here only on those that are available for free:
- small spindle-sided table with 2 shelves (from Home Depot);
- pretty trapezoidal bookcase (from Taunton Press' excellent Fine Woodworking magazine);
- very small bookcase (from the DIY network);
- the traditional glass-door, free-standing A&C bookcase, a rocker, a small side table, and a slat-back side chair (from Popular Mechanics);
- small open-backed cherry bookshelf (adapted from Today's Woodworker magazine);
- Mission-style table lamp and CD cabinet (from Amateur Woodworker);
- detailed Mission-style slat bed (from Unique Projects);
- some good advice on and a recipe for that beautiful well-oiled red Mission finish (from Wood Central);
- several plans, including a coffee table with drawers and and several small tables, in DXF and PDF formats (from Rick Richardson); and
- a small reading or coffee table (from Canadian Home Workshop magazine).
