Pho-Licious

Mopho

Reader Pho-Licious (owner of one of the best pho sites around - after this one of course) passes this photograph on to us; the restaurant is in New Jersey. Anyone try it? Is it any good?

I've been there twice before. The food is pretty good. It's not the best/most authentic that I've had, but the guys who run the place are cuties :D.

I've had the seafood noodle soup (it's a bun rieu knock-off). It was interesting but it really needed more of the purple shrimp paste, of which they had none to share with me.

They serve unlimited shrimp chips w/ nuoc mam mixed with hot sauce as an appetizer.

I had the summer rolls and they were okay, but I remember something being off with respect to authenticity.

And lastly, the pho. I prefer pho tai. The spices were well blended but could likely be from a package-spice satchel, no obvious presence of msg, meat was still pink when I received the bowl. The side vegetables were sad and largely missing though :( The last time I went was on a Saturday or Sunday so it might have merely been a gap between shopping trips, but we need our Thai basil! :(

They used to have a dish that was pho w/ everything and they called it "crazy mo' pho". They were also featured on The Late Show because Letterman liked the name I guess!

The best thing about the place is that the servers are half-breeds like me and they're sweet, friendly, and super cute. It's a funky little place and you can't beat telling people that you're going to a place called mo' pho!!

Compared to the one other Vietnamese place I went to in Manhattan, I prefer mo' pho to that one.
